email marketing - The Rewards and Dangers of Email Marketing

The Treasure Is Out There

You have watched the latest videos. You have read the latest books. You have stayed up late on the forums, reading entries and asking questions. You feel you are ready to begin. The one common thread you keep hearing is "the money is in the list". You think you got it.

So, you have heard that you need an auto-responder. That thing that keeps on giving. It sets your profits on autopilot and allows you to live the internet marketer's lifestyle. You heard about a couple of good ones. You purchase a subscription and you are ready to go.

You know that the treasure is out there. But, what you have only heard about is the reward and not the danger. There is an unseen peril within the sands of the internet. An unseen peril that can cost you thousands of dollars in fines and legal charges.

You see, email marketing is one of the most rewarding forms of marketing. It is the baby of internet marketing. You load up your auto-responder with messages that automatically deploy without any further maintenance. You can send newsletters, or tips to those who subscribe to "your" list.

And this brings me to my first point. The subscription part. Make sure that the people on your list asked to be on your list. And if they asked to be on your list (without any means of deception), make sure they are double opt-ins. This means that they signed up on your web form (usually on a squeeze page), and confirmed the email that was triggered to verify their subscription.

This one step will save you so much trouble. I cannot emphasize this enough. I refuse to deceive and throw random emails into some program that bulk mails them. Why? Because for every SPAM complaint you can be fined hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars. And worst of all, your site, IP address, and email address can be blacklisted by the email hosting company meaning that none of your emails (all future emails) are not delivered. They will not see the light of day. They will go into the dreadful dungeon known as "junk"mail, or "spam" mail.

But alas, this is not the only danger. What is destroying many marketer's sales is not the double opt-in part. It is the junk part. Do not sale junk! If you are building a list and what you are sending a person is not a good product, if somehow they buy it and hate it, they will either seek a refund or never take another recommendation from you again.

I know how easy it is to take email templates from the latest CB product and paste it into your auto-responder. However, before I take on any product I research it. And when I say research it I don't mean with another affiliate. If it takes me all day I find a third party source (e.g. The Warriors Forum) with nothing to gain who gives me a rundown on the product.

If you are looking for a quick buck, then be my guest and broadcast it. However, if you are looking to brand yourself and build your online business please heed my warning. Your reputation on here is all you have. Once you are damaged online it is hard to build yourself back up. If people see that the only thing you promote to them is junk they will soon opt-out of your list. However, on the flip side if you are sending them gold they will love you for it and express that love with their wallets.

You see, I want to see you succeed. These dangers are very easy to fall into. I strongly recommend you avoid anyone's advice who tells you otherwise. It is dangerous in today's marketplace not to make a subscriber double opt-in. You have to protect yourself and your integrity. Believe in yourself and play by the rules. Success is right at the door!

Working online is one of the best ways to make money from home. The issue is there is so much information out there that is either incorrect or false that you have no idea where to start. Patrick offers a powerful marketing system along with a free e-Newsletter that can help you get started. Sign up for free by clicking here today.

New York Times drops BlackBerry app

(Reuters) - BlackBerry users can no longer use the official New York Times app to read news stories over their devices, in a fresh blow to Research In Motion, the maker of the smartphone once considered an essential tool for business professionals.

New York Times Co, which publishes the prestigious newspaper, said it had stopped supporting its applications for BlackBerry and the Palm Pre as of Monday, meaning the apps will no longer download news stories.

"It's a matter of usage of our apps, and we dedicate our resources where we think there's the highest level of usage," said New York Times spokeswoman Eileen Murphy. "We've seen a drop-off."

But Murphy said the company has not ruled out developing an app for devices that will run on RIM's new operating system, BlackBerry 10, due out early next year.

"That decision has not been made, and it's entirely possible that we might," she said.

BlackBerry users can still read the paper over their phones via the New York Times website.

"Currently, our mobile website offers a more complete New York Times experience than the NYTimes app native to your device," said a notice to customers on the New York Times website.

RIM brought mobile email into the mainstream with its first BlackBerry devices more than a decade ago, but its market share has evaporated as consumers flock to Apple Inc's iPhone and devices based on Google Inc's Android system.

The company's sales have flagged as customers switch to competing devices or put off upgrading ahead of the BlackBerry 10 launch.

The stock, down 1 percent on the Toronto Stock Exchange at C$7.01, has fallen more than 50 percent so far this year.

RIM, based in Waterloo, Ontario, could not immediately be reached for comment.

NY judge sentences online poker worker to prison ...

NEW YORK (AP) ? A former Internet poker company employee who returned to the United States from Costa Rica to face charges he helped process illegal gambling proceeds has been sentenced to a year and two months in prison.

Brent Beckley was sentenced Monday in federal court in Manhattan. Federal Judge Lewis Kaplan says prison time was necessary to send a message to others a casual attitude about breaking laws to help businesses has consequences.

Beckley told the judge he was "truly sorry" for thinking he could continue working in the online poker business after the United States changed its gambling laws.

Beckley was permitted to wait to report to prison until Oct. 1. He must forfeit $300,000 and pay a $3,000 fine.

The prosecution has forced three large online poker companies to shut down U.S. operations.

Obama Campaign Retaliates Against Romney Small Business Attacks

The Obama campaign and Democratic National Committee on Wednesday will try to turn the tables on Mitt Romney's attacks that claim the president has a "foreign," pro-government philosophy on small business.

The DNC communications director, Brad Woodhouse, emailed late Tuesday that the organization would join Organizing for America with on-the-ground events in states, along with a national press conference call featuring small business owners to spotlight Romney's small business policies. The goal, wrote Woodhouse, is "to turn the page tomorrow on Mitt Romney's trumped up, out of context fact-checked-to-death BS about the president and small business" -- the infamous "you didn't build that" line.

"Mitt Romney's going to have to have more than manipulating video and taking quotes out of context to make up for his failed record on jobs and economic and small business development as governor of Massachusetts and the policies he's advocating for now that would roll back the investments and support small businesses and communities have always counted on to succeed," said Woodhouse.

The email, which Woodhouse sent to other reporters, hits the familiar points: Romney's record at job creation as governor, his support for Rep. Paul Ryan's budget plan, and his opposition to the bailout of the automotive industry. It also highlights some of the obscure fees that Romney imposed in the Bay State.

"If Mitt Romney thinks that communities and small businesses can succeed strictly on their own - he needs to acquaint himself with the real world where businesses depend on an educated workforce, [research and development], and solid infrastructure -- everything from broadband to road, bridges and rail," the email read.

The timing is interesting as well. Earlier in the day, the Obama campaign put out a new television ad in which the president directly addressed Romney's attacks, calling them ripped from context. That ad was treated as a sign of panic from Chicago (why else pay for a television spot in multiple battleground states?). Perhaps, however, it was more of a pivot, designed to restart the debate over which candidate has a better policy platform for small businesses.

"There is only one candidate in this race who should apologize for his record, positions and attitude towards small business," the Woodhouse email concluded, "and that's Mitt Romney."

Diabetes - What You Need to Know | Revista Women's Health

Introduction

According to the World Health Organization, some decades ago diabetes was an uncommon disease in both developed and developing countries. Today, the story is different. Currently it is estimated that more than 143million people worldwide are affected by the disease. This figure is increasing by the year 2020 more than 220million people are expected to live with diabetes if current trends continue.

In the U.S. alone, there are 18.2 million people (6.3% of the population) living with diabetes. While another 13 million people who have been diagnosed with diabetes. Unfortunately, 5.2milion (or nearly one-third) are unaware they have the disease.

The figure for Nigeria is not readily available, but an estimated 1.5 million people over diabetes in Nigeria.

In developed countries, most patients with diabetes are more than sixty years, but in developing countries, diabetes is affecting people in their prime.

What is diabetes?

Diabetes mellitus (or simply diabetes) is derived from the Greek word diabeinein ?, which means ?to pass through? to describe the abundant urination, and mellitus from the Latin word meaning? sweetened with honey. These two words mean urine sugar or sugar in the urine.

Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed in the body, for controlling the speed at which convert sugar, starch and other foods on glucose as energy required for daily life.

The hormone is produced and released
A blood through an organ called ?Pancreas?. This insulin helps keep blood glucose within a normal range.

The World Health Organization (WHO) shows the normal range between
60 ? 100mg/dl (before any food for days, therefore, this value is called the fasting blood glucose). In health, despite several requests of glucose in different situations, blood glucose rarely exceeds this value.

After a meal in the liver stores glucose as glycogen food and released into the blood between meals. The role of insulin is the control of storage and release of glucose.

Ensures that the amount of glucose in the blood at each particular time does not extend beyond or below the normal range.

Types of diabetes

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), five classes of diabetes are recognized, these are the insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) or type I diabetes, not insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or type II diabetes, gestational diabetes, diabetes insipidus diabetes and bronze.

Insulin dependent / i diabetes: This type of diabetes was initially called juvenile diabetes because it affects adolescents and young adults. It is caused by a sudden failure of the pancreas to produce insulin.

It is, therefore, an acute disease, presenting with thirst, polyuria (passing large amounts of urine), urine output and weight loss. Type i diabetes is rare, representing less than 10% of cases of diabetes.

Non-insulin dependent / type ii diabetes: This is the most common type of diabetes, which accounts for over 80% of all diabetes cases. It is found in adults and the elderly.

This type of diabetes develops gradually over a long period of time (inadvertent) and is characterized by insufficient insulin, insulin deficient in the blood or body?s inability to use insulin resent (insulin resistance). Because of its slow onset and gradual, it is mostly undetected until one or more of its long-term complications appear.

Unlike type I diabetes, insulin in the blood of a diabetic type II may be normal or even high, but does not have the desired effect, due to insulin resistance, and this is common among obese people.

Gestational diabetes: This type of diabetes occurs during pregnancy and disappears after delivery, within three weeks. An estimated 3% of all pregnancies are accompanied by gestational diabetes and almost half of these patients are likely to develop permanent diabetes later in life.

What causes diabetes

As with hypertension and other noncommunicable diseases, no clear cause (s) can be attributed to the most common type of diabetes (type ii diabetes, type i is secondary to the failure of the pancreas).

However, some factors are known to increase the likelihood of developing diabetes and these are called risk factors.

For example, populations of lazy and well fed are 2 ? 20times more likely to develop type II diabetes that the labor force and lean in the same race. Some other factors known to increase the likelihood of getting diabetes include:

Obesity is estimated that three quarters (?) of all patients type II diabetes are obese. Indolent lifestyles and rich tend to contribute to this. It is believed that a loss of 10 kg weight can reduce blood sugar levels by almost 50md/dl fasting. An active lifestyle with regular exercise is also known to increase insulin sensitivity.

The international standard for measuring overweight and obesity is based on a value called body mass index (BMI). This value is obtained by dividing body weight (in kilograms) by height squared (in meters).

That is, imc = body weight (kg) / height 2 (meters).

Note: 1 foot = 0.305metres.

For adults, a BMI less than 25kg/m2 is preferred.

25 ? 29kg/m2 30kg/m2 is considered overweight and above is obese.

Family history: a family history of diabetes increases your chances of contracting the disease. In such a situation, leading a healthy lifestyle and constant monitoring of our level of blood sugar becomes very important.

Age and race: most patients type ii diabetes are over 40yrs in the presentation of the disease. However, the percentage increase in the incidence of this disease with age is greater for those with a family history of diabetes, obesity and possibly leading sedentary lifestyles.

Also, diabetes tends to be more prevalent among Africans, African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans and Asian Americans. Belong to any of the races is a risk factor in itself.

History of gestational diabetes: a woman also increase your risk or chance of developing permanent diabetes later in life.

You can prevent / delay diabetes!

Diabetes has no permanent cure once it develops, was achieved by means of life. But you can avoid indulging in long-term pain. Before diabetes present in people, is almost always preceded by a condition called prediabetes.

A situation in which blood glucose is higher than normal, but still not enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. Sad, however, can not tell when fall into this category, if not controlling your blood glucose regularly.

The pre-diabetes is itself a serious medical condition, but still can be reversed by changes in the pattern of diet and increasing physical activity. To determine their blood sugar test called a fasting blood glucose has to be performed.

This test measures the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood of one before any meal. Is measured in milligrams per deciliter (mg / dl).

A value below 100mg/dl is generally accepted as normal, while a value greater than 100mg/dl, but less than 120mg/dl diabetes is not complete, however, so that diabetes is regarded as before.

An individual with a level of blood glucose pre diabetes need to take urgent measures to reduce blood glucose in diabetes risk or long term.

It should be noted, however, that genetic and racial factors that predispose to diabetes are still beyond human comprehension and control. Common sense, therefore, to reduce all human controllable factors to a minimum.

Most of these factors have to do with the social habits of work and diet.

The following tips can help reduce your risk of diabetes:

  • Reduce weight. Obesity appears to be the most important factor in diabetes. Weight loss and body fat and maintain a healthy body weight is very essential. To this end, a body mass index (BMI) of less than 25kg/m2 to 24kg/m2 less than men and for women is recommended.
  • Increase physical activity. It is well established that diabetes is more common among persons with a rich sedentary lifestyle. Simple dynamic exercises such as brisk walking for 30-50min daily or weekly 3 5Times has proved very useful. Exercise reduces body weight and fat, increases the functionality of the heart, reduces the chances of diabetes and also stimulates the emotions and healthy living.
  • Cut down or reduce alcohol consumption. Alcohol intake over 2units per day has been shown to negatively affect the body. Alcohol is an addictive drug makes it very difficult to maintain a defined amount of consumption for a long time. It is better, therefore, strive to reduce the consumption of alcohol altogether.
  • Avoid smoking. Cigarette smoke have been shown to contain several toxic substances. Cigarette smoking and alcohol have been linked to several diseases. Quit smoking reduce the chances of various diseases other than diabetes.
  • The meager eating habits, such as;
  • Cut down on fatty foods and rushes
  • Eat more fish and poultry (without skin is better).
  • Garlic lowers cholesterol in blood pressure, add it to your meal plan from time to time.
  • Reduce the number of eggs take 3-4 per week (better boiled than fried).
  • Reduce salt intake to less than 5.8grams daily.
  • Eat more vegetables and foods rich in fiber, especially fruit.
  • Finally, constantly monitor their blood glucose level before breakfast, as this is the only way to know when you are asking for trouble.

Conclusion

Diabetes and hypertension are so interlinked requires a comprehensive plan of care, and it focuses on dietary habits, social and environmental factors. Several lifestyle changes like regular exercise, maintaining a moderate body weight, reducing fat intake and a diet high in fiber help everyone to live a normal and healthy.

These measures are known to increase insulin sensitivity and reduce blood pressure.

In conclusion, it is very important to create a few individuals more aware of health in the population. A people who almost believes it is better and cheaper to prevent than to treat a disease, when it has become stronger.

Moreover, preventive health care can not be divorced from regular medical checks, as this hand of the two go hand in hand. There is no way to detect several non-communicable diseases without undergoing regular checkups.

The importance of these controls can not be over emphasized.
Being alive to their health. Know your values of glucose in the blood and live a healthier life free from the pain of diabetes.

Megan Rapinoe, U.S. Soccer Star, Goes on Record: "I'm Gay"

First, Anderson Cooper. Then, Frank Ocean. Now... Megan Rapinoe.

In the latest issue of Out, the U.S. soccer star says she's never hidden her sexuality, but she's never made it official, either. Until now. Simply put, Rapinoe tells the publication:

"For the record: I am gay."

Megan Rapinoe Picture

A midfielder for the Seattle Sounders Women, Rapinoe is preparing for the Summer Olympics in London and makes it clear she understands her responsibility now as a role model.

"I feel like sports in general are still homophobic, in the sense that not a lot of people are out. I feel everyone is really craving [for] people to come out. People want - they need - to see that there are people like me playing soccer for the good ol' U.S. of A."

Rapinoe has been dating an Australian soccer player for about three years.

Want early access to the new Google Play developer console? Sign up to request early access now

Android Central

During the first day of Google I/O, one of the post-keynote developer sessions was dedicated to Android Apps in Google Play. While the buzz was all about the newly announced Jelly Bean update, and the Nexus 7 tablet, the real meat of Google I/O was going on in the developer sessions.

Google Play is an ever increasingly important part of the Android ecosystem, but still remains the best way to distribute, and consume Android applications. After all, before Google Play, it all started with just apps in the Android Market.

One of the new developer features announced at the conference, is a new Google Play developer console. The emphasis is on being faster, and easier to use. It isn't ready for general use just yet, but, if you're a developer that fancies taking it for a "test drive," Google is accepting registrations for early access now. Just hit the source link below, and head on over and enter your details.

For a more in depth look though, you'll find the entire I/O session embedded after the break.

Latest results from ATLAS Higgs search

ScienceDaily (July 4, 2012) ? On July 4, 2012, the ATLAS experiment presented a preview of its updated results on the search for the Higgs Boson. The results were shown at a seminar held jointly at CERN and via video link at ICHEP, the International Conference for High Energy Physics in Melbourne, Australia, where detailed analyses will be presented later this week. At CERN, preliminary results were presented to scientists on site and via webcast to their colleagues located in hundreds of institutions around the world.

"The search is more advanced today than we imagined possible," said ATLAS spokesperson Fabiola Gianotti. "We observe in our data clear signs of a new particle, at the level of 5 sigma, in the mass region around 126 GeV. The outstanding performance of the LHC and ATLAS and the huge efforts of many people have brought us to this exciting stage. A little more time is needed to finalize these results, and more data and more study will be needed to determine the new particle's properties."

The Higgs Boson is an unstable particle, living for only the tiniest fraction of a second before decaying into other particles, so experiments can observe it only by measuring the products of its decay. In the Standard Model, a highly successful physics theory that provides a very accurate description of matter, the Higgs Boson is expected to decay to several distinct combinations of particles, or channels, with the distribution among the channels depending on its mass.

ATLAS concentrated its efforts on two complementary channels: Higgs decays to either two photons or to four leptons. Both of these channels have excellent mass resolution; however, the two-photon channel has a modest signal over a large but measured background, and the four-lepton channel has a smaller signal but a very low background. Both channels show a statistically significant excess at about the same place: a mass of around 126 GeV. A statistical combination of these channels and others puts the significance of the signal at 5 sigma, meaning that only one experiment in three million would see an apparent signal this strong in a universe without a Higgs.

The current results are an update on previous analyses shown at a CERN seminar last December and published at the beginning of this year. The December results, based on 7 TeV proton collision data collected in 2011, limited the mass of the Higgs Boson to two narrow windows in the range between about 117 GeV and 129 GeV. A small excess of events above the expected background was seen by both ATLAS and CMS at around 126 GeV, about the mass of an iodine atom.

The next steps for ATLAS, the LHC and the high-energy physics community are to measure the properties of this particle and compare these measurements with the predicted properties of the Higgs Boson. Already some of these properties match the predictions: the fact that it is seen in the predicted channels and at a mass favoured by other, indirect measurements. In the weeks and months ahead, ATLAS will better measure these properties, enabling a clearer picture to emerge about whether this particle is the Higgs Boson, or the first of a larger family of such particles, or something else entirely.

The 2012 data set comes from proton collisions with an increased centre of mass energy of 8 TeV and includes more data (collected in only three months) than was collected in all of 2011. This rapid accumulation of data was possible thanks to the outstanding efforts of the LHC accelerator group. The data set presented at the seminar comes from approximately one quadrillion (million billion) proton collisions.

The ATLAS detector has performed remarkably well, even under the more difficult beam conditions of 2012, and has, with nearly full efficiency, collected high quality data for this search. Powerful computing provided by the worldwide LHC Computing Grid was essential for the reconstruction and analysis of the data.

The LHC is expected to provide ATLAS with double the data again by the end of the 2012, before the beginning of a long shutdown to upgrade the accelerator. When the machine starts up again toward the end of 2014, it will operate at nearly twice its current energy. The new 2012 data and the data generated by the improved accelerator will allow scientists to address the questions about the Higgs prompted by today's announcement as well as other questions fundamental to our knowledge of nature.

About ATLAS

Information about ATLAS can be found on the public web site [http://atlas.ch].

ATLAS is a particle physics experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The ATLAS detector is searching for new phenomena in the head-on collisions of hadrons of extraordinarily high energy. ATLAS is studying the basic forces that have shaped our Universe since the beginning of time and that will determine its fate. Among the possible unknowns are the origin of mass, extra dimensions of space, the unification of fundamental forces, and evidence for dark matter candidates in the Universe.

At the time of writing, the ATLAS Collaboration comprises 3000 physicists from 176 institutions located in 38 different countries around the world. More than 1000 PhD students are involved in the operation of ATLAS and in the analysis of its data.

Boxee, Comcast agree to a workaround for encrypted basic cable channels on third party boxes

Boxee usually doesn't get along with the existing media / pay-TV conglomerates, but now it's telling the FCC it has come to an agreement with Comcast. The solution agreed to lets live TV-friendly Boxee access encrypted basic cable channels thanks to a DLNA-controlled high definition digital transport adapter that would connect to the box via Ethernet, with an eye towards no longer requiring an adapter at all down the road. Multichannel News quotes Boxee CEO Avner Ronen as saying it was "good to work with Comcast" on a deal that gives third parties like his company continued access to basic cable. The benefit for Comcast and other cable companies is that they could progress with encrypted all-digital solutions that would open up bandwidth for things like higher speed internet, something Boxee was arguing against previously. What this means for existing standards like CableCARD or the long awaited AllVid is unclear, but if it's one step closer to a legitimate option to ditching the cable box, we'll take it.
